Music Ministry

We are seeking to give to the people of God and to the community beautiful music that lifts the soul and enhances the spoken word in our corporate life.

BYOI (Bring Your Own Instrument) – Community HymnSing

Come, lift your voice in praise at the first of three Community HymnSings planned for this year right here at FPC.  If you have an instrument and can play from a hymn score, please bring it, along with your on-board instrument (voice).  No rehearsal will be held, but we need an instrument count. We’re hoping to fill the platform with musical instruments, the pews with vocal instruments (singers), and the house with praise to the Lord. The musical theme for this first event centers on two of the five “solas” of the Protestant Reformation: “Sola Scriptura” and “Sola Gratia.”  (Similar events in June and October are a part of this year’s celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.)  If you want music to practice at home, write and specify your instrument, please.  Questions?  See Ron Bechtel or Kirk Bentson.

Congregational Singing Lessons

Congregational Singing Lessons We have outlined a curriculum that in fifteen minute segments will carry us through several months of non-Supper evening services, covering singing in harmony, in unison; the volume of the congregation’s voice, the tempo at which a hymn is sung, and several other considerations bearing on how well a congregation sings a particular hymn. We have in mind eventually beginning to include in the bulletin specific instructions for the congregation’s singing of certain hymns. This should be both fun and useful!
