Glory, Fear, and Disordered Priorities, John 7:1-18

“We too are often concerned with esteem from others more than anything else – we crave their approval and glory, and we fear their rejection. In our culture such rejection is done through exclusion from the realm of the respectable, the realm of the sophisticated, the realm of the honorable. And such realms exclude the open and direct talk of things of ultimate reality: of God, and humanity, and eternity. And so, because our primary desire is for human glory and our primary fear is of human rejection, we often fail to engage in or even speak openly of the most important and ultimate things of human life.”
