The Requiem of Gabriel Fauré

The Faith Presbyterian Choir performed Faure’s Requiem on Palm Sunday Evening. You will recognize some of its most beautiful passages. We are not Roman Catholics and we do not pray for the salvation of the dead – such prayers are never found in Holy Scripture – but in almost all respects, the expressions of a requiem are perfectly proper and pious sentiments for any Christian to express in the face of death, which, after all, is the destiny of us all, unless the Lord Jesus should return before we die. In the few places where our theology requires a small alteration in the text, such an alteration has been made. This wonderful piece of music should be known to us all, it is a splendid example of what magnificent and timeless music has been produced for the church in years past, and we are sure you will be very glad to have heard it. It will, we are sure, prompt the sort of meditation particularly appropriate at the commencement of Holy Week.
